Event: My Annual Date With My Favourite Woman!

Heya! One weekend in the fall, for over 10 years, I have a standing date with one of my favourite people.  Almost every year, my Mother and I, attend The National Women's Show at The Toronto Convention Centre. Some years, other friends and family have joined us, but this year it was just the two of us, like it was at our first visit several years ago. My Mom doesn't live in the city, so she makes the treacherous trek into a city she doesn't know, on the bus and train. She spends the weekend with me and it turns into a shopping/girl movie weekend. We both look forward to it every year.

The National Women's Show has changed over the years. I remember when there was no such thing as fabric shopping bags, so all our samples and purchases had to be crammed into paper bags that were given out by the vendors. These bags did not last the day. And there were so many fabulous samples given out the first few years of the show. Make-up and all sorts of beauty products and the always popular razors. Although the amount of product samples have dwindled over the years, there are still a lot of wine and food samples to try and purchase.

Every year, its a hit or miss with the clothing and accessory vendors. Some years I have left spending hundreds of dollars on some fabulous and unique boots, purses and clothing. Other years I barely bought anything. But that's what can make The Women's Show so much fun. The thrill of not really knowing, and the happiness you get when you find something you weren't expecting.

This year I found some unique gifts for family members (can't say what, they read my blog), a great winter hat for $5, and picked up 3 pairs of my favourite tights that I can only find online. I also got a mini makeover at the Vasanti booth and bought some liquid foundation (stay tuned for a review post coming soon). My Mom picked up some great jewelry and gifts as well.

We also had fun trying to salsa at the Dr. Scholls booth (my Mom can salsa better than me), tried some great food, met some cute firemen, and got to meet Blue Jay legend Joe Carter! I remember cheering him on during the World Series. It was very thrilling for me to get a hug from him!

If you have never been to The National Women's Show, I recommend that you try it with some girlfriends, or try going with your Mom! My Mom and I always have fun, usually find something interesting to buy, and just enjoy each others company. All for just $12.50 each (we printed a coupon from the website). Maybe we will see you next year?!

And P.s!: For the past 2 years the fabulous Bio Seaweed girls have been there doing gel polish manicures for only $10! Hopefully they will be there next year! And if not, you can almost always get your eyebrows trimmed, get a massage or try some botox! All for less than what you normally spend.

P.s,
Melanie!
