Exhibit: The Beaches Get a Winter Makeover!

Winter Stations Design Competition Winners Exhibition Review

Even though it was freezing and my fingers were numb, a friend and I braved the bitter cold two weekends ago to visit The Beaches in Toronto's east end. Yes I know it's winter, but lifeguard stations along the Balmy and Kew Beaches received a colourful makeover courtesy of The Winter Stations Design Competition.

This year marks Toronto's first International Winter Stations Design Competition. Artist's submitted their designs to build a warming hut around existing lifeguard towers and exploring the theme 'warmth'. The idea was to bring some life during the winter to a popular summertime destination.

Almost 200 submissions were received from over 400 people from 36 countries. Five winners were selected including a team from Ryerson University. The bright (and warm) Warming Stations can be seen until March 20, 2015 (the first day of spring). So enjoy a winter walk along the beach and visit these fun warming stations, while there is still snow on the ground! Please visit Winter Stations for more information.

P.s!: The popular Beaches in Toronto is not just for the summer time! There is a lot going on - ice skating, Friends of the Beach Park activities and events, and you can always borrow a book from the Little Free Library. And in the winter time, there is a lot less people blocking the stunning view.
