Winter Stations Design Competition Winners Exhibition Review

Even though it was freezing and my fingers were numb, a friend and I braved the bitter cold two weekends ago to visit The Beaches in Toronto's east end. Yes I know it's winter, but lifeguard stations along the Balmy and Kew Beaches received a colourful makeover courtesy of The Winter Stations Design Competition.

This year marks Toronto's first International Winter Stations Design Competition. Artist's submitted their designs to build a warming hut around existing lifeguard towers and exploring the theme 'warmth'. The idea was to bring some life during the winter to a popular summertime destination.

Bloor-Yorkville IceFest 2015 Recap & Photos

Among hundreds of people, I braved the freezing cold last Saturday to view scenes, objects, and people normally associated with a blistering hot desert climate, that were being carved out of cold ice. It was the annual Bloor-Yorkville Ice Fest and Sassafraz Ice Carving Competition.

Now in its tenth year, the Bloor-Yorkville Ice Fest has become one of my favourite Toronto winter events.

H&M Sweater, Trousers & Dr. Martens Boots Outfit

With the weather drastically turning cold and the sun rarely shining, I just want to wrap myself in soft, warm, cozy clothes and never leave the house. Unfortunately, I have a job that I need to go to that pays for necessities like food, rent, and of course clothes. So it's sometimes hard to find warm and cozy fashion that not only keeps the cold out but is fashionable as well. So when I spotted this soft purple(!) sweater at H&M in the Toronto Eaton Centre, I knew I hit the winter style jackpot!

Not only is the sweater a beautiful dark purple colour (my fave), but it's warm and was on sale for $20!

H&M Sweater Dress & Lahtiset Boots from Uniikii Outfit!

I was recently invited to a preview of the unique and fashionable products offered by Canadian company Uniikii Inc. at the cool Chill Ice House downtown Toronto. I had the opportunity to view some of the amazing and fashionable lines they carry like Finnish felt footwear company Lahtiset. I loved the design of the wool felt boots they make. Not only are they unique and fashionable, but extremely warm which is perfect for Canadian winters!
 

Founded in 1921 in Finland, Lahtiset is one of a handful of companies worldwide that still work with a process called "wet felting" which enables them to create their unique and beautiful footwear. Made from pure lamb's wool, each and every pair of boots takes about eight days to make. 

Beauty: Soft Cocoa Butter Skin With Palmer's!

Heya! I have been going through my skin moisturizing creams like crazy this winter. It has been such a cold bitter season and my skin has been suffering for it. I ran out my usual dry skin cream, so I decided to try Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula, that was sent to me several weeks ago.

Lately, I been having some fun with my winter outfits. I've been pairing unlikely clothing pieces together or mixing up fabrics and styles with recent purchases or what I already own. It's not only fun but a great way to see what hidden treasures are hanging in my closet. Here is another fun look I came up that began with a great sweater I found at Winners.

Heya! The last last few weeks have been extremely cold in Toronto. And it's only the beginning of January! It's hard to keep a smile on my face when the weather outside is frightful. But now is the perfect time to have fun with your outfits! Experiment with different layers, fabrics, and styles. Have fun and don't let winter bring you down!

Heya! Last Sunday I visited The Steam Whistle Brewery. Not just to sample their fabulous beer but to shop at the new Winter Farmer's Market.

Now that the cold weather is here, I find myself dressing casual, with jeans and sweaters, more often. Sometimes it's hard to stay motivated to look stylish when I all I want to do is stay warm! The way to looking good while dressing warm, is to remember these 3 elements: statement accessories, layer in colour, and fashion forward knits, like this one I picked up at M for Mendocino a few months ago.

Heya! I don't normally post on the weekend, but this week has been so crazy hectic: trying to fit in work, holiday events, Christmas shopping, baking, and making a gingerbread house (yes, I made a gingerbread house), that I ran out of time to post on my blog! But I had to share this fabulous outfit I bought at Homegrown Boutique in Yorkville a few weeks ago. 

I've always wanted to stop by and check this store out, being a place that features Canadian designer fashions. Armed with a $50 gift card I received from Spark Sessions and a resolve to find a sexy and chic dress, I finally had an excuse to buy myself a Christmas gift.
