Beauty: Buildable Colour that Sparkles from Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks!

Eye Shadow Makeup Review

Heya! Several weeks ago, I attended a Revlon beauty event, where I was given several Revlon makeup products to try at home. I loved the Revlon Colorstay Moisture Lip Stains and Revlon Colouburst Lip Balms, so I was excited to review the Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks, a range of individual eye shadows that click (link) together to form your own customized colour palette. The colours I tried are Lime (satin finish), Plum (matte finish), Lilac (pearl finish), Moss (pearl finish), and Onyx (pearl finish).

First of all, I love the idea of creating my own eye shadow colour palette. I always find that there is at least one shade in pre-packaged palettes that hardly gets touched and the mostly empty used palette finds a home at the bottom of my makeup drawer, after the other colours are gone. I loved all the colours I tried, but found that they were all much darker in the package than what they appeared when I applied them on my eyelids. The Lilac and Lime were extremely sheer and I had to apply several layers to get the desired pigment. I could barely see these two colours when I colour swatched them on my arm. Although the shimmer from these two lasted all day, the colour faded after only a couple of hours. But despite it's sheerness, I found the Lime shadow to be very soft and easy to apply, maybe because of the satin finish.

The other 3 colours- Onyx, Plum, and Moss all had excellent pigments, were easy to apply, colour built up well, and lasted throughout my work day. The only drawback was that the shadow colour set in the creases and folds of my eyelids, so I suggest using a primer before application. I also found that the shimmer and sparkle from the pearl and satin finishes was quite extreme. This is great for a night time look, but not the best look for the office. Overall, I loved that the colours were quite buildable and the 3 darker shades for long lasting colour. All the colours are very pretty, even the dark Onyx shade, which is perfect to create more dramatic looks, like a smokey eye.

The packaging is also quite fabulous. The individual shadows easily clicked together and stayed attached. Also, they only cost around $3.00, which is pretty cheap. Although buying a few shades might cost more than pre-packaged eye shadow palettes, you get a customized palette with colours that you chose!  No more wasteful and forgotten half used eye shadow palettes at the bottom of your makeup drawer! Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks are available in 4 finishes and over 30 shades, and can be found in most cosmetic departments and drugstores.
